Imaging properties of the new Konica Excellent screen/film system (new EX system) were investigated in comparison with the old EX system and Fuji Advanced Orthochromatic Radiography system (AD system). The physical imaging properties measured include the characteristic curve, modulation transfer function (MTF), and Wiener spectrum. We also evaluated the systems using clinical radiographs. The new system showed that the speed and contrast were generally lower and the sharpness and granularity were higher than those of the old system. However, in a visual test using the clinical radiographs, there was no significant difference between the new and old systems.
