Abstract |
In ethics education for future allied-health professionals or "co-medicals" we should pay attention to the way it has been conducted in American higher education because of their attempts to introduce to the world the ideas of medical ethics suitable for the contemporary clinical scene and to implement them in various forms in the regular curriculum. The characteristics of American ethics education can be seen in 1) their proposal of the system of ethical principles applicable to today's ethical dilemmas, 2) their appraisal of informed consent with the principle of autonomy necessary not only for the recipients of health-care services but also for the providers who could possibly conflict with colleagues and care-team members, and 3) their pragmatic approach in the emphasis of case studies and open discussions to arrive at possible resolution of dilemmas. |
