高齢者の転倒恐怖に関する国外の最近の研究についてまとめた.特徴としては, 1)転倒恐怖は, 転倒未経験であっても, 在宅高齢者の日常的かつ深刻な恐怖である。2)転倒恐怖は, 高齢者の活動を限定し, 対人交流を減少させ, QOLを脅かす。3)転倒恐怖は転倒の結果であると同時に転倒の予測因子となっている。4)転倒恐怖の原因は転倒経験以外にも指摘されている。5)Tinettiらは, BanduraのSelf-efficacy理論を基にユニークな転倒恐怖測定のスケールを開発している。また, 転倒恐怖の治療がいくつか提案されているが, 治療効果に関する研究は見られなかった。

The purpose of this study is to show recent overseas researches about fear of falling among elderly persons. These suggest that 1) fear of falling is a common and intense experience among community-based elderly persons, even among those without a history of falls ; 2) fear of falling among elderly persons can compromise quality of life by limiting activities and reducing social interaction ; 3) fear of falling is a result of a fall and a predictor for further falls ; 4) causes for fear of falling other than a fall experience were indicated ; 5) Tinetti and her group developed a unique scale based on Bandura's "self-efficacy theory" to measure fear of falling. Furthermore, some proposals have been made with regard to the some interventions for fear of falling were suggested. Studies about the effects of such interventions have not been known.
