脳性麻痺児の生活機器導入の実熊を知るために, 肢体不自由児施設および診療所に外来通院している脳性麻痺児の親と担当セラピストから聞き取り調査を行った。2歳から23歳までの90名のうち86名96%のケースが一人平均5.6件の機器類を導入していた。機器の種類は移動用具が最も多く, 次いで座位保持用具であった。ほかに食事, トイレ, 入浴用具の順で多かった。導入された時期は, 移動関連用具では, 乳児期にベビーカー次いで幼児期にバギーになり, そして歩行器と車椅子とを導入していた。痙直型四肢麻痺とアテトーゼ型は, 車椅子や姿勢保持装置の導入に類似した傾向があり, 痙直型両麻痺児は歩行器, 杖, 短下肢装具など移動の自立につながる装具などが多かった。機器類を導入したことによって, 日常生活動作の自立度の向上したケースと, 重度児では介護度の軽減につながったケースがあった。

The purpose of this study was to determine the proper time to introduce equipment to a cerebral palsy child. Therapists and mothers of outpatient cerebral palsy children that visited a hospital that specializes in treatment of children with cerebral palsy and a medical clinic were investigated. A questioner was given to 90 people, and 86 (96%) responded. An average of 5.6 pieces of equipment was ordered. The most often ordered equipment-included equipment to enable movement and seating systems. Other orders included equipment necessary for eating and bathing. Equipment for movement ranged from a baby buggy in infancy to a walker and wheelchair depending on the child's age. Spastic quadriplegia children tended to order similar equipment as Athetoid children. And spastic diplegia children ordered walkers, canes, short leg braces to aid in independent walking. Children with less involvement ordered equipment to increase their levels of independence. Children with severe disorders and their families tented to order equipment to aid in care giving.
