Setting a patient's energy requirements is an important aspect of nutritional treatment. There are various setting methods, but there have been few reports about the setting method of patient energy requirements used in different hospitals. Therefore, we performed a questionnaire to research the setting method of energy requirements in hospitals. As a result: (1) The Harris-Benedict equation to estimate basal metabolism was it used by 91% of the dieticians surveyed. (2) In hospitals using the Harris-Benedict equation, there were problems with increasing the patients' body weight. (3) Only 5% of hospitals measure patients' energy expenditure. (4) Most hospital dieticians do not measure energy expenditure because of the cost of this procedure.
