　子ども達にとって農場での活動は，多様な発達の側面を刺激する機能的で意味ある「真の作業」を提供する場となっていた。それに加え，ゆったりとした時間の流れと豊かな自然，動物達との触れ合いや人との和やかな交流が，子ども達をさらに癒したように思われた。
　農場という場での作業療法は，植物や土壌，動物達がその土地の季節や気候と有機的につながり合う中で実践され，これらを維持するために行わなければならない作業は無限に存在する。それを子ども達のニーズに合わせて自然にアレンジするところが作業療法士にとって重要な役割であると考える。"

"Occupational therapy is reported here based on the experiences of seven Japanese adolescent children with developmental disorders who visited Lois Hickman’s farm. During their visit, these children participated in activities called “meaningful work” that supported their emotional, physical, and social development. They learned to relax about the passage of time, appreciate the abundance of nature, and take the opportunities to communicate with animals and other people. All of these activities had a restorative effect on these children. For our purposes, a farm is a place where animals, plants, and soil are organically connected to the seasons, which, in turn, provide many meaningful tasks for these children to do. Therefore, it is important for a therapist to adjust these tasks so that they match the individual needs of these children."
